Maggie Libby

Maggie Libby is an artist who explores how our local environments, geographies, and lived histories influence women's identities, voices, and stories, using large scale erasable drawings, portraiture, and oral interviews. She maintains an active studio practice, shows throughout the New England area, and is currently the Curator of Digital Discovery and Engagement in Special Collections and Archives at Colby.

Rob Smith

Rob Smith is a nature photographer who creates art from the chaos of the all-seeing camera lens. He is a certified Master Photographer from the Professional Photographers of America. He has served as judge, mentor and moderator for critiques and workshops for the First Light Camera Club, Portland Camera Club, Maine Professional Photographers Association and Maine Botanical Gardens.

Karen Adrienne

Karen Adrienne is an artist/owner and director of Artdogs Studios and Circling the Square Fine Art Press, in Gardiner. She was a Professor of Art at the University of Maine at Augusta for 30 years where she taught printmaking and artists’ book s and has received numerous grants, awards and artist residencies in the U.S. and abroad.

The event, presented by Waterville Area Art Society, will offer great prizes, in a wonderful environment for artists and art. We look forward to your participation as we Celebrate Art in Waterville!

MOJAS is open to all amateur and professional artists, 18 years and older, living in Maine — including part-time residents and college students. Each artist may submit up to two pieces of their original artwork for a non-refundable registration fee of $35.00. All entries must be submitted digitally by Monday, February 21, 2022. All entries will be juried digitally for acceptance into the show. Selected artwork will be judged in person for determination of awards. Notification of acceptance or non-acceptance will be sent to all entrants via email.

Categories

Categories have been restructured to accommodate the ever-evolving world of fine art.

-Acrylics, Oils, Tempera, and Encaustic

-Watercolor, Gouache, and Pen & Ink

-Dry Media: Pastel, Charcoal, Graphite, and Color Pencil

-Digital Media & Photography

-Other Media: Mixed Media, Assemblage, Collage, Sculpture, etc.


Prizes will be awarded in all five categories as well as a Best in Show and People’s Choice awards.

Rules

All entries must have been completed between 2019 and 2022.
Artwork depicting erotica, gratuitous violence, or hate speech will be automatically rejected.
2D size excluding frame, not to exceed 24” x 36”; 3D artwork not to exceed 24” x 24” x 24”
2D work must be framed, unless gallery-wrapped with no visible staples. Frames and canvases must be wired and ready to hang. Sawtooth hangers, loops or unstable frames will not be accepted.
Accepted artwork must remain for the duration of the show unless purchased.
Images of submitted artwork may be used for publicity or promotional purposes.
All artwork will be insured by the venue while on the premises. Condition reports will be filled upon drop-off.
For any work sold, the artist will receive 70% and the venue will take a 30% commission.
Artists are responsible for delivering their work to and from the venue.
Selected work must be labeled with artist name, title, year created and medium on the back of each piece. If the work is not for sale, please indicate NFS on label. Value must be provided for venue's insurance purposes.

Important Dates

MOJAS 2022 will be held at The Framemakers, 46 Main Street, Waterville, ME and runs from March 19th to April 22nd, 2022; exhibit hours are Monday through Friday, 10am to 4pm, and Saturday, 10am to 3pm.



Delivery & Pick-up of Entries

Submission and Photography Help: January 31, 2022

Submission deadline: February 21, 2022.

Notification of acceptance/non-acceptance: March 4, 2022.

Drop-Off of artwork:
Friday, March 11, 2022, from 4pm-6pm
Saturday, March 12, 2022, 9am-12pm
Artwork sent in by mail or courier must be delivered to Venue by March 11, 2022.

Online Opening Ceremony: Saturday, March 19, 2022
slideshow of entrants starting at 4pm, and awards starting at 5pm

Online Closing Ceremony: Friday, April 22, 2022
slideshow starting at 3pm, and People's Choice award at 4pm

Pick-up of MOJAS Artwork:
Friday, April 22, 2022, 5pm-7pm
Saturday, April 23, 2022, 10am-3pm
